Fantastico Now Installs J 1.5.6 |
If running a version of Joomla prior to 1.5.6 Fantastico can be used to upgrade your site, but only if Fantastico was used to do the initial installation.
Version 1.5.6 is an important security release and recommended for all users.
!! Backup your site files and database first. (Fantastico also makes a
backup on the server, but it won't hurt to download backups to your
desktop as well)
!! If you have made custom edits to core files the edits may have to be
re-done. Third party extensions may also need to be checked for
compatibility with the new Joomla version.
Generally speaking, the more customized a Joomla site is, the more
there is to potentially break by upgrading. This is why a backup of
files and database is a good idea in case unpredicted results occur.
Then if the upgrade does not go well, at least you can get back to where you were.
